Dr. Seuss Time

Date and Time: Saturday, September 10th at 10:30 am

"From there to here, and here to there, funny things are everywhere.”

Join us for a fun event for the whole family.  Come dressed as your favourite
Dr. Seuss character and listen to our local celebrities read their favourite
Dr. Seuss book.  Enjoy a quick craft and meet our special guest, The Cat in the Hat.

Celebrity Readers:

Carolyn Campbell-Sheen

Carolyn Campbell-Sheen has been teaching in the Collingwood area for thirty years, enjoying great stories and sharing them with children. For the last fifteen years, she has been a Teacher/Librarian at Admiral Collingwood E.S., entertaining the troops!

Carolyn has run a Dr. Seuss Night at the school for the last twelve years, where local celebrities read their favourite Dr. Seuss stories, and everyone shares cake and juice to celebrate his birthday. "I have become a lover of Seuss! Many of his books have important messages."

John Nichols

No stranger to the Southern Georgian Bay area, John was born and raised on a dairy farm on the Old Fort road just south of the Martyrs Shrine at Midland. While playing in a rock band during his teen years, John became interested in music and radio. He quickly decided radio would be an exciting profession.

His parents told John to get a real job, but like most teens, John didn't heed their advice. Forty-two years later, John is in Collingwood at the Peak-FM, living the dream. “As far as I'm concerned,” says John, “I live in the best area in the whole darned world, thanks to so many wonderful amenities. It's no wonder so many other folks agree, as this has become a popular retirement area for many Ontarians. Welcome everyone!”

Singing, Learning, Laughing

Date and Time: Saturday, September 10th at 2:00 pm

Location: Collingwood Public Library

Children’s performer Paul Behnke delights and enlightens all ages through music. Paul’s songs build literacy skills, promote environmental awareness and multiculturalism, and help children deal with bullies. Throughout his concert, kids keep busy performing actions. Paul also picks volunteers from the audience to play hand held instruments during various songs. Though geared towards the little ones, grownups will enjoy his performance, too!

Paul Behnke completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Waterloo and graduated from Teachers College in London, Ontario in 1994. While teaching elementary school with the Waterloo County Board of Education, he discovered his talent for writing and performing children’s music.

In 1994, Paul wrote a song called “The Greatest Prehistoric Band”, accompanied by a children’s book.  Emerald Records of Nashville released “The Greatest Prehistoric Band”, as well as “We’re All Different on the Outside.” In 1999, Popular Records and E.M.I. Music of Canada signed Paul to a nation-wide record contract and released his educational album, “Singing, Learning and Laughing”. Paul won a prestigious Parents’ Choice Award for this release.

Since 2002, Paul has appeared on the Children’s Television Show “TQ”, for whom he has recorded ten songs.  In 2007, Paul’s CD “Happy Hands, Happy Feet” earned a nomination for The Best Children’s Album of the Year.  Paul has also been nominated as The Children’s Entertainer of the Year by the Entertainer Network of Nashville, Tennessee.

Paul continues to tour and appear on television and radio programs throughout Canada.   He recently released his third CD, “Catch A Tune”, featuring fifteen original songs.  Paul performs a very popular show entitled “The Bully and the Purple Pants”. Using songs and stories, Paul teaches children effective strategies for dealing with bullies. He enjoys country living and resides in southern Ontario with his wife and children.
